What are your personal fitness goals?
To be holistically fit and healthy, both physically and mentally. To push my body beyond limits my mind cannot comprehend.
How will you use your #BiogenFaceOfFitness ambassadorship to inspire women to lead a healthy / fit lifestyle if you win?
I will use the ambassadorship to change the narrative and solidify the notions about fitness I have been preaching to other women. It will act as a “stamp of certification”, especially where I come from. There, fit women are shunned and a “real healthy woman” is defined as someone with chunky arms with fat around their hips, buttocks, abdomen and thighs. Fitness is deemed to only be for men. I will use the opportunity to show women that we can be fit and still be “woman enough”, and demonstrate how beneficial being fit is and that one can even make a career out of it. Most importantly, it will serve as inspiration, especially to younger women; the first woman born and raised in Hillbrow, a place famous for crime, prostitution and hopelessness, to ever become a brand ambassador and grace the cover of a local magazine.
What health and fitness quote or mantra do you live by?
Fitness is more than just a goal, it’s a lifestyle. Chasing goals can be tiring, and goals can be reached and discarded, but it’s hard to discard that which you live by, that which is your life. This is my life!
Tell us about your fitness lifestyle
I’m up at 6:25am six days a week for a 3km morning sprint, followed by 10 minutes on the cycling machine. At the end of my day, I either go to the gym or train at home workout for 90 minutes, five days a week. I have no set fitness goals because fitness is my lifestyle – it is part of what I do. It is part of my life’s routine. I do not follow any strict or restrictive diets. Instead, I eat in moderation. I fill my fridge with 40% veggies, 40% fruits and try different recipes with them. I also make most of my own dry and fast foods, like bread, wraps, pizzas and burgers to control how much of what goes into my food. I also avoid driving distances below 5km and opt to walk instead, except for situations where either have to be in heels or I am on a tight schedule.
Why do you think you’re the Biogen Face of Fitness?
I am a firm believer in fitness. For me, fitness is about self-discipline, determination, consistency, commitment, and self-love among other things. Personally, I believe healthiness and fitness could be the solution to most problems we face as Africans. My firm belief in fitness, my love for fitness and my passion for it are what make me believe I am the Biogen Face of Fitness.
