What are your personal fitness goals?
My main goal is to continuously work on improving my current fitness level; my endurance, physical strength and speed, whilst staying healthy and injury-free.
I have set some small personal goals, in order to keep me on track and motivated:
5km & 10km PB
Increase reps on bodyweight exercises (pull-ups,sit-ups and push-ups)
Improve Crossfit inspired workout scores
My long-term goals include getting back into competing in triathlons, trial running stage races, MTB racing and ultimately doing the Karkloof 50 miler Ultra Trail marathon.
How will you use your #BiogenFaceOfFitness ambassadorship to inspire women to lead a healthy / fit lifestyle if you win?
I believe health and fitness in any form should be accessible to all. The #BiogenFaceOfFitness ambassadorship will not only provide me with the opportunity to share my hearty passion for living a healthy and fit lifestyle to others, but also the opportunity to educate myself, look the part and interact with industry professionals.
I will use the increased media visibility and gained knowledge to connect to, inspire and educate, women and like-minded individuals. I believe that by doing this, I will be able to empower and motivate women, regardless of their health and fitness level, to be comfortable with the way they look but also to set clear goals and continue to do their best every day.
Tell us about your fitness lifestyle
Fitness for me entails a wide variety of sport and exercise. Of course lockdown has put some activities on hold, but under normal circumstances I’m an avid runner and cyclist, swimmer, gym go-er and mobility preacher.
For now I am running or cycling 5 days a week. I incorporate 3 sessions of some form of strength training (Crossfit inspired, body-weight or weight-based exercises) into my weekly training and at least 2 mobility and flexibility sessions.
I am following a flexitarian eating lifestyle. Lifestyle, because this way of eating has no clear-cut rules, calories or macronutrient restrictions, it’s not a diet. It has enabled me to eat more plant-based foods, whilst still including meat and other animal products in moderation into my meals. I do not believe in excluding any food groups, so flexitarian is a great way to eat healthier in a wholesome manner, without feeling restricted. It’s a way of eating that is nutrient-dense and sustainable, and a way that has made making healthier choices so much easier.
Why do you think you’re the Biogen Face of Fitness?
As a full-time pharmacist, I get to share my passion for the importance of living a healthy lifestyle on a daily basis, through education, advice and recommendations to patients. Living a fit and healthy lifestyle has always been an integral part of who I am. I believe in a holistic approach to health and fitness and my day is planned around ensuring that I incorporate aspects (physical, mental, social & spiritual) thereof into my daily routine.
I have the knowledge on health, medicine and supplements to educate like-minded individuals and those looking to make a change. I believe that I can inspire women to be fit and healthy without making it feel like it’s impossible or difficult.
I believe that my physique is a true reflection of a balanced lifestyle, my physique is achievable, but most importantly maintainable and sustainable. My body represents exercising and eating in moderation and that curves should be embraced and celebrated.
I am living an authentic lifestyle of health and fitness that I am whole-heartedly passionate about. I am your Biogen Face of Fitness 2020.
