What are your personal fitness goals?
My fitness goals are to balance strength with flexibility, endurance and power while fueling my body in the best way possible for optimum performance.
How will you use your #BiogenFaceOfFitness ambassadorship to inspire women to lead a healthy / fit lifestyle if you win?
If I win this competition, I will encourage women to accept every part of their body. Helping them plant the seed to celebrate their individuality and reiterate that they are powerful beings regardless of what the next person looks like or how fit they are. We all have strengths and weaknesses. I will strive to support them in embracing both and help them manifest a mentality that thrives for bettering the individual every single day with small reachable steps to becoming an overall healthier human being.
What health and fitness quote or mantra do you live by?
Manifest the mentality, then make the move. ( I’ve made my own one up, haha! it works for me )
If I had to choose one from one of my favourite athletes, it would be
“From the inside, out”- Karina Elle
Tell us about your fitness lifestyle
I use fitness for functionality, strength, career longevity, as a stress reliever and because I simply enjoy it. I train Monday to Saturday. I have enjoyed and continue to be enticed by the challenge of trying to balance my flexibility and strength.
– I am currently doing cheer conditioning which consists of tumbling, body weight strengthening and stretching.
– I dance everyday as ironing out dance technique and form only promotes safe dance practice and aids in performance. Once technique is established you can push yourself to greater lengths. I am trained in Hip Hop, Modern Dance, Tap Dance and Classical Ballet.
– Weight training, plyometric Training and High Intensity for strength and power. And then there’s the bonus of aesthetics!
I like to split my training days. Usually starting my week off with legs. Mid- week, I focus on my upper body and will split it into a pull and push day. For me this keeps my training less monotonous and I believe it increases muscle mass really well. I will add core as I believe that training core is an integral part of fitness and aids in all of the above. It also aids in good alignment of the spinal column therefore assisting proper posture. I also eat 4 – 5 meals a day with snacks in between. I believe in eating nutrient- rich foods that will fuel me for what I’m about to do throughout the day. I don’t believe in restricting too much as a healthy relationship with food is crucial for your overall well-being. However, there are certain foods and drinks that I try to stay away from as I don’t find them necessary and they just give me bad break-outs! haha! I have a HUGE sweet tooth though!
Why do you think you’re the Biogen Face of Fitness?
I believe I am ‘Biogen Face of Fitness’ because I know what it feels like to not be the best. I know what it’s like to work hard and reap the rewards of the process. I celebrate the small victories towards the goal regardless of if others are “ahead” of me. I know that I am on my own journey of becoming better and stronger for MYSELF without comparing myself to others but rather learn from them. The performing arts industry can be rather fickle and you can easily fall into the comparison trap and become despondent. With my training I was pushed to be robust and resilient to the pressures of life and people and although quite a stressful environment, I have learned an immense amount and I wouldn’t change anything about my training. Having gone through a process of having to push myself through uncomfortable times, like not feeling good enough in a dance class and having to work harder than the more “talented” individuals, has made me realize that even if it comes naturally to you, whatever it is, nothing beats hard work and no one can take that internal drive away from you but you. I know I have full control. I believe that I promote authenticity in everything I do and say. In having this trait, I know I will achieve a high interaction with people and create a safe environment for people to relate to myself and one another.
